231. Percent of U.S. Adults Who Were Overweight and Percent Who Were Obese: 1997
[Percent who are overweight includes those who are obese and representthose who have a body mass index (BMI) equal to or above 25. Percent who are obeserepresent those who have a
BMI equal to or above 30. BMI is a measure that adjustsbody weight for height. It is calculated as weight in kilograms divdied by heightin meters squared. These estimates are based on
definitions provided in the DietaryGuidelines for Americans, published by the U.S. Dept. of Agriculture and the U.S. Dept.of Health and Human Services. Based on the National Health
