Terrorist groups - foreign based:
Islamic Jihad Union (IJU): aim(s): overthrow the Government of Uzbekistan area(s) of operation: maintains a limited operational presence; IJU's attack tempo diminished after suicide bombers conducted three simultaneous lethal explosions in Tashkent on 30 July 2004 aimed at the US and Israeli embassies and the Uzbek chief prosecutor's headquarters; two Uzbek security guards at the Israeli Embassy were killed; the bombings occurred as the trial began for 15 IJU operatives accused in a wave of attacks in the spring of 2004 that killed approximately 50 people in the first known cases of suicide bombings in Central Asia
Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan (IMU): aim(s): overthrow the Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan Governments and establish an Islamic state in the Fergana Valley, a fertile valley in eastern Uzbekistan, southern Kyrgyzstan, and northern Tajikistan area(s) of operation: maintains a limited operational presence; attack tempo against government personnel and facilities has diminished dramatically since 2015
