area(s) of operation: conducts kidnappings, bombings, and assaults; responsible for displacing thousands of people and contributing to food insecurity, especially in the southeastern Diffa region; on 3 June 2016, the group conducted its deadliest attack in Niger, when operatives overran a military outpost in the Lake Chad Basin area in Bosso, killing 30 Nigerien soldiers, two Nigerian soldiers, and injuring 67; the group conducted its first known attack in Niger on 30 January 2015, when operatives tried to overrun Bosso and Diffa, resulting in the deaths of four Nigerien soldiers, one civilian, and approximately 109 Boko Haram fighters; Niger continues in 2017 to participate in the Joint Multinational Force's military offensives against Boko Haram
