Terrorist groups - foreign based:
Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (ISIL): aim(s): destabilize Belgium's economy and government area(s) of operation: remains operational; responsible for twin bombings in Belgium at the Brussels Airport and Maelbeek metro station near the European Union headquarters on 22 March 2016, killing 32 civilians and injuring at least 200; In Europe, Belgium is a top source country for ISIL recruits, where recruiters target youth; as of early 2017, approximately 450 Belgian citizens were fighting in Syria or Iraq alongside ISIL, planning to go to fight, or had returned from the fight
