Ports: no harbor; open roadstead offers anchorage offshore from Alofi, from where servicing is by small boat

Airfields: 1 with permanent-surface runway of 1,650 m capable of taking intermediatesize jet aircraft

Telecommunications: single-line telephone system connects all villages on island; est. 1,000 radio receivers in use (1983); 1 radio station; no TV service
