260 km2; about one-third the size of New York City; consists of three low-lying islands formed of calcareous rock, with maximum elevations of 12 m (Little Cayman), 18 m (Grand Cayman), and 42.7 m (Cayman Brae); about two-thirds of land consists of mangrove swamps
