* Definitions

Barrel (petroleum): A unit of volume equal to 42 U. S. gallons.

Crude Oil (Including Lease Condensate): A mixture of hydrocar- bons that exists in liquid phase in underground reservoirs and remains liquid at atmospheric pressure after passing through surface separating facilities. Included are lease condensate and liquid hydrocarbons pro- duced from tar sands, gilsonite, and oil shale. Drip gases are also included, but topped crude oil (residual oil) and other unfinished oils are excluded. Where identifiable, liquids produced at natural gas processing plants and mixed with crude oil are likewise excluded.

Natural Gas: A mixture of hydrocarbons (principally methane) and small quantities of various nonhydrocarbons existing in the gaseous phase or in solution with crude oil in underground reservoirs.

Natural Gas, Dry: The marketable portion of natural gas production, which is obtained by subtracting extraction losses, including natural gas liquids removed at natural gas processing plants, from total production. Natural Gas Gross Withdrawals: Full well stream volume of pro- duced natural gas, excluding condensate separated at the lease.

Natural Gas Marketed Production: Gross withdrawals of natural gas from production reservoirs, less gas used for reservoir repressur- ing; nonhydrocarbon gases removed in treating and processing operations; and quantities vented and flared. *
